Very good foam work! Will you be adding a covering of wall Spackle or have you other methods you'd be willing to share?

No, no spackle, I just shape it, trim it, fill gaps with building foam, carve it, then whack it with a stiff wire brush and finish with a sanding block. I then cover it in flat latex paint, then add detail layers of paint, then scenery, works good for sandstone rock formations

Made a small addition, a fold down section, doesnt effect the storage area of the layout yet I get another continuous loop for the dinky stuff. Already built it, just need to run a power wire to the new siding, looks like I'll have to hook up the BTE so I can walk around this thang.

Some progress pics, finishing up the carved and textured foam on the right hand sideneed to add a couple more bits and caulking before I hit it with the paint.

Along the front added carved and textured foam to the front side as well

Next is to do the left side foam scenery, I like the left hand fold down section and am considering adding another on the right hand side that will fold under the tabletop for storage

The biggest problem I'm having are the darn low tempuratures, I glue down stuff then have to wait 2 or three days for it to dry completely, makes progress terribly slow. Why do I only seam to be doing this stuff in the middle of winter.

Work at your own pace, there is no need to ruin such a wonderful layout to impatience. And for those long "curing" times I suggest a nice cup of hot coco :D

More progress pics, foam at left side done need it to warm up a bit before I can paint.

Added the other fold down section on the right hand side, I'm back up to 6'-6" wide once again, but I can trim off almost 2 feet to store the layout

I will be doing some wiring it up like a Christmas tree that Trek's Scotty would be proud of. It will able to run like another part of the layout but I can also isolate the rear line on its own power and will add an LGB auto-reversing unit.

Looking good Vitto.

Where do you intend to display the layout? It looks like it should travel well, with those drop down leaves etc.

Cheers

I cut it twice and it's still too short.

Last time I took it to a show was just the upper 3 foot square section, its easiest to carry in. If I want to take the whole thing I would have to rent a moving van wide enough to roll the lower part into.

Last show I took the upper section to was the last all large scale Big Train Show in Ontario back in '08, this years BTS was bad timing all around so I didnt take it. I hope to take the upper section back again next year if my large scale group has a booth again next year.

We have a real dearth of train shows out here and we get most all of them within a month of each other, there was one last weekend in Ontario, next weekend in Del Mar 100 miles away and then again on the 2-3rd of January next year in Anahiem, then nothing till the BTS again in June.

I really intended the lower sections "portability" to more about ease of movement around the garage, the ability to take it elsewhere is just an added bonus.

So, you can have your own display in your garage.........

I tore down my large HO layout, with the intention of making smaller, On30 or Gn15 layouts......... but guess what, nothing has happened yet.

Oops sorry, I should have said Ontario California  :-X

I'm actually in that place where they have the big flowery parade every New Years Day. If I was in the midwest or east coast I'd have alot more opportunities for shows, train shows are a kinda rare event out here. Heck seams like theres more going on in Sacramento area than down here.

Ontario. Yep, we make that mistake a lot at work. The address says Ontario , CA and it gets passed to the foreign shipper who then sends it back.

Train boy, will try to post a list of local shows this weekend. Speaking of this weekend, there is a big show in Columbus, OH, isn't there?
