module ideas
« on: January 16, 2009, 07:34:15 PM »
The model Railroad club I belong to has finally decided to build something, after over a year of meetings  ???
Anyway I was thinking of doing a factory scene for my module, you know with a lot of piping, rust, dirt and soot.
But I need an idea on what kind of factory to build, and a good name for it.

I was thinking of maybe making a Sailboat fuel and balloon stuffing factory, on the in track would be pressurized tank cars carrying nitrogen, oxygen, argon and carbon-dioxide.

Or maybe a Friction Factory, supplying pre-made friction to all the finest machinery builders on the east coast.

Or a plant to manufacture household dust, used in the most discerning households the world over.

Whatever the plant makes it needs a catchy name and slogan and it has to be a product that is common, and something no one in their right mind would ever pay for :D

I know I can count on the inmates here to help me out :D

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm,

Let's see, ... You could import MilSpec Upsidasium and ISO9000 Unobtanium to blend with Illudium 234 to produce Organic Smuff ( belly button lint ). Or you could blent the same ingredients to make Bio-friendly prop wash, which is more rare today than it was inteh '50s. Then there is always a market for relative bearing grease, which is very similar to military bearing grease, both of which may be applied to relative bearings and chrome plated muffler bearings. Or you have a bent to produce something more substantial, there is always a need for flight line or inverted clothes line.

There is always a need for prefab flight path,, canned Kentucky windage, and one may always grow compass roses, which require copious amounts of shot bull for fertilizer.

As an odd bits collector, I've been thinking of using the empty, domed metal pressure cans used by my wife.  Living in the Philly are provides me with more than enough information for the making of small, complex chemical plants.  DuPont, Sun Oil, BP and all the other big plants have adjacent to them small plants that make the catalysts the big boys use.  The module need not be large but compact with pipe of all diameters and color running all over the place.  A tall cracking tower should dominate the scene with a lot of smaller, verticle tanks nearby.   Don't forget a siding for a tank car !

Guys, thanks for you help, but I guess I didn't state my question/request properly. I need a whimsical name and product line for my factory. Like "The Pittsburgh Pre-fab Pothole Company" or the "Shannon Surplus Sheet-metal Sliver Company" or something that just sounds like a real company making a product that no one wants or needs.

My friend in the club has a coffee mine, and an espresso well on his module, I just need an good idea. Right now I ain't coming up with any.

How about "Desert Springs LTD". International suppliers of dehydrated H2O. Just open the sealed package and add water!
I'm more myself today than I've ever been before !

Hi,

When showing layouts at public exibitions, it draws some interest to have funny sounding names on buildings or sites. after all, we are there to entertain the paying audience.

Years ago I was quite happy with my Stupidium Oxyde mine, run by workers in striped suits.
Now my Teer & Federn (Tar & Feathers) factory gets a smile here and there.

Buildings in larger scale need incredible much space. That is one of the reasons 8besides transportation) I only model the fronts. That´s sufficient to establish the theme and character.

Have Fun

And a FINE job you do, Fritz. That's my plan as well because of limited space.
