Been having a bad day so to brighten things up...
« on: July 30, 2009, 01:26:57 PM »
Actually a bad week and month, but what the hell...

Anyway, one of the things going on (messily) involves moving a radiator in my house, and that left two little stubs of pipe capped off in my entrance hall ceiling.

Painting them white was boring.
So I had a mad moment.  Call it whimsy.ila_rendered

Railway whimsy under way includes a "pizza"  in 45mm gauge  with a diameter of 15 inches, measured to the outside of the sleepers. (a shade under 6" radius at track centre)
The loco needed to be a bit specialised, and it's not an 0-4-0.
It's running, photos when it's painted.

Emettman,
It's a bit hard to see, but lightening the photo reveals what appear to be 'scales' on the eye 'stalks' ...........

What scale are they ??

 :D
I cut it twice and it's still too short.

Hi Emettmen,

I would normally wish you a speedy recovery into fun again, but if this is what you do when you're slightly bent . . . I dunno.

The idea is inspired. Any ideas as to which specific equipment will be running? I'm sure that your muse is hard at work on these small details.

I too have been having a bad month, but I finally got myself moving on projects and I feel a little better.
If not an 0-4-0, then maybe a 0-2-0/0-1-0 where you have 2 wheels on the outside and only one on the inside of the circle?

dmaynard,
An excellent idea......

I made a similar model a while ago....
Below are pics I posted on the old AWNUTS Yahoo forum.
I call this a 1-1-1.

It does tend to like to go only in anti-clockwise direction on a circular track.

G(reen) scale of course!

To follow on other posts and pictures...

I did once try an Emett loco, number 3 1/2 , the salvage result of a collison between number 3 (0-4-0) and number 4(0-6-0) having three wheels on one side and two on the other.
Yes, it didn't like right-hand curves.

Herewith, unfinished, the pizza project.
The idea is to have the scenery and the stock changeable.
The loco chassis and the two trapezoidal coach/waggon chassis can (subject to an adequate supply of round tuits)have different bodies dropped over them for Emett style, Christmas, Easter, Halloween...

15" outside diameter, with a seriously bent loco and trapezoidal coaches.

Chassis: a 4-2-0 with pick up on the leading bogie, the motor being one end of a Playmobil R/c chassis with plastic wheels.
Wheelbase 79mm inside, 105 mm outside.  There's enough play that the loco will actually run round a 2ft radius circle, but it can't handle straight track.

First body American style, for a "Coming round the mountains" diorama, with a big central styrofoam spike.
At least that's the thinking (thinking!?) so far.

Emettman,

I like the pizza! Make sure the engineer wears a trapezoidal hat!

The pizza just got finished:

Not styrofoam Colorado Mountains, but urethane foam.  It appears to be replacing the blue and pink styrene stuff at my local builder's merchants.

Wallace driving, I do have other W&G figures to add to the coaches.

The scenery being removable, as are the train bodies, I now have to at least contemplate a witch's train and backscene in time for Halloween, and then comes Christmas.

The only thing I don't like is how turned the headlight is..it's a bit too much and makes an otherwise great little model look kind of rushed..since the cowcatcher is still pretty straight with the boiler.. maybe if the light was moved closer to the same angle as the cowcatcher  it would clean it up alot.    Otherwise I love it,  I couldn't really bring myself to create something like that, I like straight track far too much, lol...  my second HO layouts was point to point with 2 large yards..it was like 20'Lx2'W..

I personally like the headlamp angled like that. Maybe what would "fit" for the MadHatter is if the pilot was also angled, but I like it the way it is.

I like that Wallace is obviously looking.... but clearly not seeing where he is going or what might be on the track ahead.
The light is perfectly placed - juxtapositioned to what the driver Wallace is doing.

Keep it up.........
