Steam Tram
« on: September 29, 2009, 10:57:50 PM »
Hi all
Pics of my steam tram, currently under destruc... construction.

The story so far.........
ila_rendered

The prototype......
ila_rendered

Got this idea from another forum, it seems to be a carnival type car, with that striped canvas? roof, centre longitudinal seating (perhaps in a zoo?), and no apparent facility for fuel (coal, water etc).... any ideas?

Cheers

I cut it twice and it's still too short.

Ah, the Bell! You beat me to it on this one. It's on my list of "must do somedays".
Manufacturer's description;
Self-Propelled Passenger Car

"The Bell Self-Propelled Passenger and Baggage Cars fill many requirements. Excellent for service on short branch lines both in the United States and in foreign countries.  Many plantations use this type as a workman's car.

Narrow-gauge railways in Central and South America and the West Indies find these cars cheap to operate and maintain.

Modified type of this car has many advantages for "hump" freight yard service."

"This car may be had with open canopy top as illustrated or with completely enclosed body as specified."

I have two steam railmotors as a key part of the passenger services on the Wheal Strange Light Railway, and two or three more in various stages of imagineering/assembly/re-working.
Not counting a couple of "inspection cars" in similar condition.

There's probably a prototype for anything...

Roughly, a Clayton steam railmotor.

Originally inspired by a Hughes steam railmotor of the Lancashire and Yorkshire.

The Knotty (Staffordshire) version always seemed quite quaint and attractive.

or something Viennese?

If your steam tram a "fireless", if it is then that could explain the apparent lack of coal and water storage.

Yes ahlplex,
I agree, no room for the consumables, then it must be fireless.

I'm waiting for the paint to dry, then I'll post more and better pictures.

Cheers :D

Ah there is a past time I could never get into...watching paint dry. :D

Well we await the progress pictures. Maybe if I see someone else making progress I will get off my, um, can and start making sum progress myself.  ;D

Naw, I probably won't. I am lazy, but I still like seeing other peoples' progress.

After a hard day at work, I like to come home and watch the walls melt. And its all natural, no agricultural nor chemical products are used in that pursuit.

Actually in the warmer weather I watch the fish in my pond, and the trains chase each other back and fourth across my yard. Now that its getting cold again (30°F tonight :o ) I wont be watching neither the fish nor the trains for a while. Oh well maybe I will actually get some work done. ;D
