Tall, small boilered, internal pistoned, doover
« on: November 12, 2009, 05:27:45 PM »
Hi all,
The latest item in the making....

ila_rendered

I hope to enter this model in the Tacoma National Garden Railway Convention.

It will need to be carefully designed so that it packs down to almost nothing....

Cheers

I cut it twice and it's still too short.

Here's hoping they don't have tunnels on their railway!

I'm sure that the Railway officials have installed telescoping tunnels for this Locomotive. Will you be adding any special coaches or freight cars for this wonderful start?

Thanks for the comments gents...

No, no cars etc planned at this stage...

And, no, no tunnels on the BBB&MC Rwy.

Tacoma will have to just make things fit !!

I am very much intrigued by this loco you're building; - especially the comment about needing to be able to be packed down to nuffing.

Well, almost nuffing. You see it must travel to Canada, across Canada, then around the States and back to Tacoma for the convention in August 2010. And we are going via and coming via Japan...

Sayonara.........

Too bad it isn't Tecoma instead of Tacoma. Tecoma is just down the road. I guess I can't complain too much. Gordon Watson lives even closer than that, and if there is one Australian you need to know in the garden railway scene, it is him.

Greetings,,,

Not to sidetrack the model to be, but now I've got to go check for any examples of telescoping tunnels....

Rowan,

Are you using the plutonium that I sent to you last Summer? It seems an nicely controlled reaction would serve your engine's needs well.

Some of my engines were purported to be fueled by small breeder reactors.

In 1996 I took a whole "pack-flat" railway in a suitcase to the United States, including a painted scenery cloth, foamboard backscene and folding buildings based on "pop-up" card ideas.  The clearly "one-off" wiring and switches did cause a light-hearted "what the **** is that?"  But no problems.
In 2000 I took a tiny Emett railway (O on 9mm) as hand luggage on a flight to Canada and had it running during the trip.  Wires, battery, switches: no I don't think it would pass muster post 9/11.
Not even if I offered "Let me show you what it does..." to the security men.  That might get me shot, these days.

"Those were happier times," as Gandalf said before the west-gate of Moria.

Good luck at the X-ray machines. I would be fun to watch their faces. 8)

Don't use the plutonium to power it. Try to take that on the plane and we'll never hear of you again!! :o

BK, you really are trying to stir the pot today arn't you!! ::)

I'm just so amazed at the concept of a fold down 'flat pack' travelling railway.  Making good models can be tricky enough, but making good models that fold up as well must take a lot of planning.

Thanks all for the 'encouraging' comments....

The planning (read procrastination) will be long and arduous.. as I find that the more you procrastinate the better the end product....

Well, there's the "ship in a bottle" approach, where you just pull one string and...

Or has anyone tried an "inflatable" railway using vinyl for loco and rolling-stock bodies, buildings and scenery?
Maybe not.
