Has anyone tried doing a mermaid themed layout or at least something mermaid-related?

No, I can't say that I have even thought about doing that, sorry I can't help you on that one.  :-[

Trainguy111, thanks  :D

But since I have WAY too many ideas of my own, and some not very good ones at that, I don't think I will be taking the plunge  ;D on this one  :D

Not exactly mermaids, but this NTrak module features Spongebob.

Our own Chris Walas did perhaps the best nautical themed ideas, including my personal favorite, the Crimson Herring!

Chris' site is well worth a young padauns perusal

There must be hundreds of mermaid-related layouts and models out there. But since mermaids tend to be not properly dressed, the will never be published in here.

So all I can show you, are some of my mermaids on their way to work at the local shark aquarium.

All you need to model such a world is a larger TV or PC screen for the background plus films like this:

Well since my layout is set in the very very early days of radio I doubt that will have any aerials on my layout.  ;D ;)

On this side of the pond we put Ariel into the washing machine.

Now, that is a layout I´d like to see.

Although on further reflection...would a satellite dish look out of place on a 1910 era layout? ;)
