Personal Pizza - in G no less!
« on: May 08, 2010, 07:59:34 PM »
My latest distraction, after reworking the portable I had a bunch of bluefoam, wood and a 21" circle just laying around, I hate that, so I thought I'd try throwing them together ...

Still mucking about with it, maybe one day I'll actually be able to take it to a show somewhere.

Vitto,
Nice. Cheese flavoured I see.
(I only said that coz I like to see the word flavoured squiggly underlined.... when I know the US-based system would like to see it spelt (there's another one!!)  flavored.)
My real question is: Is there somewhere where the 21 inch radius track can be purchased. Or, should I just try to bend some track to that radius?

Cheers
Rowan
I cut it twice and it's still too short.

Try here: http://www.modell-werkstatt.de/gleissystem/gleise/45-gebogenes-gleis-r0-achsradius-422mm.html

Code 332 track is a bit on the high side. Good for 7 / 8th models.  In shiny brss it looks very toylike. Curtain rails we call them over here. We prefer Code 250, like Peco, Llagas-Creek, Sunset Valley or miha-modell track.

Have Fun

Rowan, Aristocraft now makes 21 inch (ART11140) and 31 inch (ART11145) circles of track. Its brass with "Euro" ties.

Once again, it is shown that you don't have to have a big space for a model railroad. Nice work Vitto.  Too bad you couldn't get the rolling stock off the shelf in kit or RTR. ??? It would encourage a lot of people to "give it a go". ;D Smallest radius available in O is 27" :o. A lot of RTR /off the shelf will work on it and not look too bad. A circle of this would take too much bigger a footprint that what Vitto's little pizza does. HMMMM!!!! 8)

If you look around, there are plenty of models or kits in larger scales with short wheelbases offered.

I can recommend the IP Engineering products from the UK. http://www.ipengineering.co.uk/
Mainly the metal kits.

In my eyes, Pizzas are not really raiload layouts. Rather some entrtaining joke or maybe an eye catcher for a window display. In every day use the loco chassi are worn out in a very short time on sharp radi. Unless you design and build them for such a purpose.

The German Lasergang-Shop designed a Gn15 passenger coach kit  for  tight radi.

Fritz, in that case all my layouts are not "real" layouts, but then who defines whats "correct"? thats a moving target and I've always said there is no wrong way to build a model railroad if the end results are satisfying to the builder. Its all in the eye of the beholder as to what's "correct" or "proper", but then I've never been called "correct" or "proper", rather "bent" and "twisted" so my deliourious little layouts are perfectly in character for me.

I personally dont call them "layouts"  I prefer to view them as "Kinetic Art" or sculpture, and as art, I am not constrained by the conventions of traditional model railroading, :D

From what I have seen over the years from the members of this group very few have been constrained, nor their imaginations contained.

It's the joy of the creative mind.

Please don| t get me wrong. I love Railroad Pizzas.  A very creative and sometimes entertaining  way to practise some basic modelling skills, without having to spent a fortune.   I play around with the idea myself occasionally.

Never thought of it as Kinetic Art or Sculpture.   But I make my living beeing an artist. Never thought of offering my toy railroads as a piece of art. Should I talk with the galleries or museums?

Have Fun

Never thought anything else.

Have a friend in Sydney who does fantastic scenery. When he does demonstrations at conventions I have come to the conclusion that given the same materials and standing alongside him doing exactly the same as he does he would finish with a masterpiece while I would finish with a pile of sticks. He is an artist....(although he denies this).....which I believe is something that cannot be taught.
