New Microlayout.
« on: September 01, 2010, 12:04:05 PM »
I have just cut up a few pieces of XTS track  to make another little "window display" layout.
Size is about 10" by 14", and the scenery is removable so once again I can do different themes or styles.  (anyone who can point me at some N scale or 15mm ninjas or Shaolin kung-fu monks would be doing me a favour)
The XTS goes down to 2 1/2 " radius.

The train goes round each loop both ways, as it re-sets the points when "pushing through"
I'm working on a "Thomas" one with the motor in the coach, but I'm having some problems with de-railing with the loco being pushed. (revised "pusher" coupling is needed)

The cardboard buildings are "first fix" too, but serve quite well.  I'm keeping my eye out for some chopped pottery ones at charity shops etc.

The beach was a happy accident.  It was the one section that kept de-railing the trains and, having failed at everything else remedial, I cut it out aiming to use a piece of metal n-gauge track to even the curve slightly (from curve + short straight).  Then, rather than back fill to hide the now absent XTS baseboard piece, the beach and dodgy wooden bridge idea occured.

It will run all day on one AAA rechargeable battery.
