Dr Suess
« on: September 07, 2010, 05:25:43 PM »
Having just returned from Tacoma WA and the National Garden Railroad Convention where I de-construction and packed my model entry, collected ALL the awards that it received, and re-constructed it back here in OZ... I'm pleased to report that it now has a proper engineer and passengers.......

The Cat, and Thing 1 and Thing 2.

Unfortunately the forum seems not to allow me to upload pictures.
(Ferd, is there a problem....... or perhaps just my system?)

Cheers
Rowan

Rowan,

I can't wait to see what they look like. The model was great to see at the convention. Glad you and the model made it home in one piece. It was a pleasure meeting you and your wife.

Rowan, I recently tried to put pictures up via "attachments" and it didn't accept them.

I got them up by putting them in my Photobucket online file and inserting them via "insert image", bottom left box of the options.

Look forward to seeing your latest critters...

Where do you come up w/ the details... brass pot, bell and the head lamps?
Wonderful piece.

Hi Joe,
Usually I haunt the Op Shops (Goodwill or Thrift shops in the USA) or Savers for things like brass pots, crockery barrels etc.
The bells I buy in craft shops - they are available in dozens for a few $'s.
The lights and buffers on this item come from the McDonalds toy pictured below (also bought in OP Shops for pennies).. these are great source of material, and most have gizmo's inside that beep and such, although I have not used those parts.
Apart from these things Suess is made from matt card, craftwood, rubber washers, biro pen parts, garden sprinkler riser (for the chimney) and a fire box door etc from a toy loco.
Cheers

It's obvious to me that you chose the purr-fect colors for the village, Day-Glow!!

I'm awaiting completion of the carriage too, as you should know!

Tommy too strikes,
Crikey, you have good eyesight... the colours seem a bit lurid. However, they tend to show brighter in the pics than in real life.
I'm waiting for comments that Toby's face looks like someone's great-aunt!! He has come out as someone I know, unfortunately....

Well finally able to up load pics. This is my Dr Suess Gn15 train. The Ho Bachmann 0-4-0 engine lost his cab and new cab was constructed by thing 1 while thing 2 watch. A special thanks to Rowan for his input on the McDonalds toy. The clear plastic water bottle topped off the smoke stack.

My son has me racing RC trucks right now and train has been put on hold, I will keep updates as they come.
